It's Still Shaking Today!!!
This morning, after breakfast, a few of us from the dorm were heading back when Aguo spotted a senior selling his old computer — a Celeron CPU, 80GB hard drive, going for 1000 yuan. We figured we’d go check out just how bad it really was. After getting lost once, we finally found the guy. The moment our dorm’s resident tech wizard touched the computer, he nearly bricked it. While he was working on it, the senior suddenly jumped up and shouted that there was an earthquake. Another guy poked his head out of the bathroom — probably mid-shit — and asked if it was really an earthquake. No one knew what was going on. Our tech wizard just kept tinkering with the computer. Zhang Shaoxia, who was from Mianyang, looked genuinely scared — he’d come to our school to escape the earthquake in the first place. I didn’t feel anything. Maybe I’d become numb. I went to the window and looked down; people below were panicking. We just kept looking at the computer, ignoring the earthquake. In the end, our tech wizard declared it was absolute garbage, so we headed downstairs. Damn it. Everything felt off. On the way back to the dorm, I had to say it — I was really pissed. Why the hell did we have to live on the goddamn tenth floor, climbing those soul-crushing stairs? Our school was cheap enough to skip installing elevators and put the main entrance on the fourth floor. Just as we finally made it upstairs, Li was coming down. He had been in Xinjiang during the college entrance exam and missed the May 12 earthquake. He said everyone in our building had already evacuated — what were we doing going back up? So at his urging, I grabbed my stuff and went back down with them. At that moment, I was seriously considering just leaving for Chengdu. It felt like running away. Depressing. They went out with Li to buy speakers — yesterday he bought a computer but didn’t get speakers, only a pair of those cheap hanging earphones.
